Unless you have ALOT of money skip this idea altogether....it requires relocation and reshaping of the firewall (you have to move it back about 4 inches), remote radiator (under the truck), extensive steering modifications (hydraulic steering steup required due to the fact that there is no clearance for the steering shaft or steering gear box), frame mods (stiffening mostly), and tunnel clearancing (a TH400 won't fit in the stock tunnel...and ANYTHING less than a TH400 won't live behind a RamJet 454)
You also have to upgrade the rear-end to at least a 12-bolt...preferably a 14-bolt semi-floater, build a custom driveshaft, convert from power brakes to manual brakes (no room for the vacuum booster on the firewall.....even AFTER the firewall gets moved back), and find a set of coil springs that will hold up the weight of the 454 (good luck...airbags are probably a better choice)
After ALL THAT is done you have to re-design the interior of the truck around the relocated firewall (custom dash and pedal assembly at the VERY least)......
I have seen two bigblock S-10's...both owners had $25,000+ into the conversions and NEITHER had found a good way to steer or stop the things because hydraulic steering is VERY vague and DOES NOT self-center after taking a corner, and WHO THE HELL wants manual brakes ???
If you are REALLY interested in doing this I can provide you with links and info on the conversion.....but I REALLY advise you against it !!!!

the truck that i am looking at is already set up for a big block. there is already a 12bolt. all i need is motor and tranny. the motor has been moved 18in back. it had a 454 in it before. i think that a th350 would live just fine behind a 454 if it is built right.
