Which would be the easiest and make the truck faster, an 5.7L LS1 or 6.0L.

They will be the same in difficulty but out of the box the 5.7 will make more power plus it is lighter due to being an aluminum block.

the ls1 is lighter but the 6.0 is cheaper to make faster. the ls1 you have to worry about blowing it up, or spending a butt load to resleeve. I think I am going to build an engine for my truck. trust me I am going with the 6.0 and stroke and bore the hell out of it. 408 or 421. Probably do all forged internals and then throw a turbo, supercharger, nitrous. You know price wise you can build a 6.0 to produce more horsepwoer and be more reliable. thats the way i would go.

Depending on how far your taking it. I would say that most people can make plenty of power on a stock 346 block to be happy. Plus, you'll save quite a bit of weight. Just a cam and rebuild with GOOD parts, and my LS1 is running 9.09@80 in the 1/8th on the stock 4.8 tune!

If you're going all out, or building a boost motor, get the 6.0.

Scream, do you have any pics of you LS1 in your truck? I'd love to see how it looks! Do you have any vids of sound clips. I bet it really does "scream!"

Pop your hood and take a look. That's EXACTLY what my motor looks like.

And, no vid or sound clips, but I am taking it to Gainesville tomorrow--WITH SOME TUNING!!!! I'm hoping to break into the 13s.

I have been experimenting with a 5.3 block. I just had it bored out to the 5.7 slug size ( 3.898" vs 3.78" ) as the crank and rods are identical. The bored block sonic checked good, thinnest wall was 0.250" ( 0.150" is minimum you want ).
Granted, this may be the long way around things. I will start assembling the iron block LS1 soon and will update the end result, hopefully good.
FYI, my total so far for machine work and used 5.3 long block is $700. I hope in the end the expense will be minimal compared to a 6.0 or LS1/LS6 motor. More to come.
