Default best shift point for a 6.0 lq4

i will be doing some research on this on my own prety soon but was wondering what other are doing. i think my exhaust might be holding me back some, i have my shift points set at 5600, it is actucly geting over 5700.

sounded like a good starting point but after driving it for a couple of weeks it seems like it is too high, actucly pulls harder after the shift. well tonight i had a nice example of what i was feeling. i raced a guy from about 35mph roll, it shifted down and i hung right next to him, dead even for a little bit, then it shifted to 2nd and there was a rush of power and i pulled a full car on him right after the shift.

also when using nitrous i hear you should lower your shift points, if i am too high NA then i may be way to high for nitrous.

when do you guys shift and have you done any testing to know if that is the best time to shift?

I have mine at 5500 right now and it's too high....stick with 5300 to 5400 on the stock cam and it pulls like a raped ape right to the shift and pulls hard after the shift also

BTW....with the new fuel pressure regulator installed (that WAS the cause of my idle and cold start issues) that delay after the shift we talked about in your other post is totally gone...I am also not throwing codes left and right anymore

do you want me to take another video of it shifting so you can see what I mean ???

Just have him send you an updated one with new shift points, he should do it for free - the shipping costs.

I thought about that, since there are some other things that need changing with the tune. But, first of the year I'm planning on taking the truck to Futral to get Dynotuned anyway, so I'll most likely just wait til then. The 5800 shift point seems fine so far on my setup though.

Isn't the 4L80e rated to shift at 5200rpms stock? Not that they can't shift higher, but perhaps an efficiency issue?

Yep. But I can tell you with the blower 5200 was way low. It would lag big time after the shift. Mine are set at 5700, 5600, and 5400 and it is much better. Not sure how this would work with a NA truck though...

I'll bet some cutouts would make it pull harder up top.

That cam in the 6.0 is the same as an F-bod right... 197/209 appx. Well in a stock F-bod the 1-2 shift points were like just under 6K rpm (on my 1998 from what I remember) and since cubes eat cam duration I'd say 5400-5600 is best for that stock cam in a 6.0
