Default Best operating temperature

I have Electric fans on my truck, and they are adjustable as to what temperature they come on at. where should the engine run for max horse power , does this even matter, from the factory the trucks run about 200 degrees and now mine is at about 175 all the time. Will raising the running temp help or hurt power.

hurt, hotter engines are better for emissions but worse on power. sounds like those fans are doin a damn good job of keeping that engine kool too.

I got a setup from summit. It is made by flex-a- lite. Two 14" fans and a shroud, the kit came with the thermostat and adjustable temp control box. it also has relays to the a/c compressor and ignition so I dont need any switches insideand I have had no problems.

I just did the thermostat mod in anticipation of my LT-1 electric fans and Superchips tuner. I was shooting for 170, but got conservative and am currently at ~185 (by the dash gauge). When I get the fans, I am going to go ahead and add a litle more shim to hopefully hit the 170 mark.

For what it's worth, most guys will tell you that the dash temp. gauge is off according to Autotap. Maybe one of them can enlighten us non-Autotap guys as to which way (gauge showing hotter or cooler).

My autotap should be here sometime this week and I have been curious of the same thing. I have a 160 stat and LS1 fans and my temp sits about the 185-190 mark on my Escalade guages.

To answer the original ? of the thread... I saw a test where cilinder wall wear increased dramaticly below 170 so I am shooting for around 175-180 on mine.
