best conv. for a whipple?
#1
what seems to be the favorite converter for the whipple? i was leaning towards the yank tt3000, but have been changing my mind alot lately. the trans is due for a rebuild in the next couple of weeks and i was going to swap converters while it was out. this is the setup i will be running when the conv. goes in: 2001 scsb 5.3 3.73's w/g80, airaid box, whipple kit, custom predator tune, jba headers/ no cats/ 2.5" true duals w/ x pipe and dual magnaflows, e fans. the truck is my daily driver and only sees the track about once every month. i never plan on buying slicks so it will always be on 285/50/18 yokohama avs s/t's. what do you guys think?

alright, let me explain myself alittle better. i do drive the truck every day and it only goes to the track every now and then but i like to drive hard. i want something that will launch hard and pull hard but still be pretty streetable for when i take the girl out. i don't want to have to worry about the trans getting to hot or anything like that either. i think parish8's going to talk me into the tt3000 because thats what i was originally going for. parish, how do you like the converters street manners? do you think i could still hook with street tires as long as i didn't stomp it off the line? does it pull harder in the powerband w/ the converter (higher STR)?

everyone here will tell you the street mannors are exelent, after a couple of days you will forget it is there but when you floor it the tires will fry
, with some wide tires you will be able to modulate it and get moving prety well i would think. i let anyone borrow my truck and dont tell them anything, no one has ever made a comment on it, it is that mild but when you floor it it is great. if you tow with it a cooler might be a good idea.
i gaurentee you will be nithing but
if you get one.
i really can't say if it is the best converter for you, this is the only converter i have ever had but i can tell say you will like it and not find it dificult to get used to.

My yank goes in next week and I will let you know how it does with the Yokos. I really cant see how you hook up now on them with the Whipple. I can roast mine pretty good on a hard launch on motor and I cant even think about spraying out the hole on them. So it ought to be fun learning how to launch again with the Yank.

they wouldn't hook for crap the first day the blower went on. it would fry them through first and second from a dead stop and ~20mph roll. now i can stomp it from a dead stop and they won't even chirp, thats how bad the tranny is slippin. i went to the track sat. night and cut the below time w/ the wasted trans so i know it will run pretty strong. one run it hit the rev limiter on the 1-2 and still ran a 14.52@96ish. should have shifted @ 5600
. think its time for a rebuild? haha
