Default Before and after 212/218 dyno results

Went to Norris Motorsports in Orlando this weekend, and even in the much warmer weather, I showed a 31hp/11lb-ft gain from the cam! I'll try to get the images on the 'net shortly!

Before: 241 hp/251 lb-ft

After: 272 hp/ 262 lb-ft

WOOHOO!

I take it this was a comp extreme cam??? .522/.529 lift? How does this cam feel on the street? Did you have any tuning done? was their any driveability issues to get sorted (adjusting throttle body or drilling)?

Yes, it was the 212/218 .522/.529 114 cam.

At first there were some driveability issues, but all we did was adjust the screw on the throttle body and it idles perfectly fine at 500-600 rpm. It has a nice lope to it, but not so much that its a pain to drive.

I felt a LOT of gain up top, but it feels a little sluggish down low at WOT. Part-throttle cruising feels better than before, but I guess the sharp increase in HP up top really exaggerates the low end sluggishness.

And, this was in a 4.8. The 5.3 would have even less driveability issues.

I think that a converter and headers will really wake this little engine up! I'm shooting for 300 n/a hp with the headers and a custom tune. While I don't *have* to have it to drive the truck around, I'm sure that I can squeeze out some more ponies by leaning her out a tad (she's running at 12.2 now.)

DAMMIT, now I have to start saving for a converter! LOL

And, a BIG THANKS again to ReallySlowTruck for the excellent dealings that we had when I bought the cam from him! I really appreciate it!

Nice gains. I was hoping that the 212/218 cam would work out well for you. How does throttle response feel in the low rpms? You know, cruising at 1500 rpms then you tip the throttle in a little, is it responsive or sluggish?

It feels just as good/better than before. My short times were up from when I went to Gainesville the last time--I was cutting consistant high 2.2s - low 2.3s and now I'm in the mid - high 2.3s. The truck launches COMPLETELY different now...I can actually stall it up on the convertor without spinning, where before I could barely come off the line from just above idle.

I'm very please with the cam, and I know that headers will really wake her up.

One header question: would I see a greater torque benefit from a tri-y design like the Thorley header or from a AS&M/TOG style header? Or, would I be killing the potential of the higher-reving cam? Decisions, decisions. LOL

Well, I already have some, but they were a bit dissapointing. The heat has already arrived in Florida, so the times don't really reflect the hp gains...

Last August, I was running 15.55-15.60 @ 88-89 mph in the heat. I went to the track week before last and ran 15.27-15.33, all in the 91.5-92.5 range. (My best time of 15.06 was in 30* December air--the only change since then is the cam.)

The 1/8th mile times are right about where they need to be, right at 10.0.

But, the truck seems to be running even better now that I've adjusted the idle, so I might make another trip down really soon to see if i can get a 15 flat in the heat. That would be an accomplishment!

It sure would! It's been hotter than hell around here lately. With a 3000 converter, you'll be whooping it up big time. Congrats!
