B&M cooler 70264 or 70298 with fan?
#1
I'm replaceing my factory trans cooler with one of these:
Alot of guys run the 70264 (6x11x1.5 - no fan) and I've seen people's results with up to 40deg temp drop....
What about the 70298 (10.5x6.5x4 with 7" fan) or even the larger 70297 (13.5x9.3.5 with 9.5" fan) ? Are these overkill for a daily driver? Can the oil temp get too cold?
70264 is only $50, while the others are around $200, but I'd rather pay $150 more now if it meant superior cooling/longer trans life.

I think the one with the fan would be more needed if you didnt install the cooler right in the front of the truck. Im sure there is enough airflow, unless you are stopped or at the strip.
If you installed the cooler under the truck or sideways, then I think the fan would help, but above 60, it might just hurt when installed up front.

what if you took a computer box that comes with flex a lite fans and rigged taht up to the fan on the trans cooler. that way it would only turn on when it gets to a certain temp!! or maybe there is another spot open so you could hook it up to the pcm like normal electric fans.. im not sure about the pcm idea but i think the other one would work.
that way you have a fan just incase it starts to get to hot. like in traffic or at the track..

Its cool man
I should have mentioned that in the original post
actually you've got me thinking......I wonder if temps would get over 160 on the highway anyways with all that airflow.....If not, and the fan wasn't a limiting factor, it seems like having that large cooler would be good.....and having a fan to turn on around town or while sitting in the staging lanes might be a really good thing......I just wonder if the temps would actually get below ideal numbers with such a large cooler (ie. you dont want your engine oil temps too low because the heat isn't enough to break down deposites etc)
