Default assembling short block today, need help

i'm putting the rods/pistons back in the block today and was wondering about ring GAP location. and is there a diferene in having one side or the other in or out on the pistons. is there any specific direction for the piston to face, i know there are only two options but which one is right? does that make sense to anyone? someone help me out here

the pistons should have a mark or dimple on em to mark the front if they are directional like the old small block pistons. as far as ring gaps go as long as they are staggered 180 degrees, they will be ok. try to offset the expander rings as well from each other.

Matt,

Did you get the pistons correct. If you can't get it correct I can email you a LS1 repair guide. Let me know if you need it.

the "oil" ring is made up of the expander ring (the wavey lookin one) and the the scraper rings.
