ASP alternator pulley/ belt problem

Re: ASP alternator pulley/ belt problem
BADHD I have the larger alt pulley with no charging probs and LS1 fans. Could it have something to do with it being a 6.0. They might have slightly upgraded accessories for the extra weight. Here is an idea. Put the belt on that doesnt squeak and wear and make 2 marks on the belt tensioner. Then put the other pulley and belt on and see where the two marks are at now and you should know if you need a shorter or longer belt. It might be worth a shot.

Re: ASP alternator pulley/ belt problem
Can someone measure their stock alt pulley? I want to see if mine is the same or not. ASP mentioned something about GM upgrading, but they werent sure.
I did put the stocker on last night. No squeeling at all. I think I do need a bigger belt. But..since I put on a bigger pulley. Replacing the smaller. Wouldnt that mean I need a smaller belt for the ASP alt pulley?
At idle my lights will dim slightly. But at 2000+ rpms the voltage is fine. So......I think I may do OK.
Also, what are is the alt rated at on a 1500? I think mine is 130 amps.
Cashdudehomie, I dont quit follow the 2 marks and the tensioner. Explain?

Re: ASP alternator pulley/ belt problem
My stock alt. pulley is 2.5" side to side, and 1" where the belt goes on the grooves (wall to wall). Not sure if that helps, but it should be the same.
The belts I used were Gates
K060882 Main belt
K040345 AC belt
I'm running the smaller OD pulley, and I have had no problems.
I think my stock 5.3L alt is rated at 105 amps and the 6.0L is rated at 130 amps.
Only thing I can think of, would be a different size stock pulley on the bigger alt.

Re: ASP alternator pulley/ belt problem
Hmmmm........those are different part numbers for the Gates belts than what ASP shows on their site. They show, Gates K060900, AC Belt: K040345. So does that make your shorter or longer than what ASP shows?

I was thinking your belts could be too short or too long...that came to me in the last few min. Heck worse case scenario, give them a call and see what they think.

MY ALT PULLEY WHICH IS THE ESCALADE 130 ALT IS 2 3/8 SIDE TO SIDE AND 1" FROM FRONT TO BACK. WHEN I INSTALLED IT ON MY TRUCK I ALSO HAD TO INSTALL THE BELT FROM A 6.0. GOOD LUCK AND PLEASE LET US KNOW WHAT COMES OF THIS SINCE I AM THINKING OF GETTING A SET.

Re: ASP alternator pulley/ belt problem
Hm.......So i think the ASP belt is to big. Since I put the stock pulley back on, with the ASP belt I have had zero problems. This tells me I need a smaller belt with the ASP alt. pulley. Damn that was a waste of $50.
