Default anyone running a vac canister w/cam

i have a 5.3 w/a tr220 and the brakes aren't so great at low speeds. seems fine on the highway when the engines turning 2000 rpm but if i'm idling along and hit the brakes they don't work so well. anyone use a vac canister with this cam to to help the brakes out or am i trying to chase a different problem.

I don't have any experience with vacuum cans, but a hydroboost will solve your problems.

With A Cam That Small You Shouldn't Have Any Vacuum Issues. I Have That Same Cam And I Drive In Stop And Go Traffic Every Day. My Brakes Feel No Different From Stock Till Now.

I have a similar cam and my brakes feel the same, even when I'm running with it un-tuned

I haven't quite figured out why, but this problem is MUCH MUCH more common with people who have cams and run the factory torque converter. I know of several(including myself) who had vacuum issues with a cam and stock converter.

Now that I have my Yank I haven't had a problem yet. Go figure.

If you need to raise the idle speed the engine will start to pull against the stock converter and load up.

I had a car with a built SBC and a lopey cam. The power brakes barely boosted, I tried an add-on vacuum canister and it didn't help because I wasn't making enough vacuum to empty it, either. If I kept the car next step would have been Hydraboost.
After re-reading your post, a canister might help you. The car's brakes weren't good at any RPM.
