Default Anyone have over a 224 cam in a 5.3

Want to know what the largest cam anyone has in there 5.3 and how it runs? I had one recommended to me that seemed a bit much for a street truck 234, 226, 112 lsa. Was wondering if a tr 224 would be better.

Your going to need a tune and a pretty high stall converter IMHO with that setup. That sounds like more of a strip cam. I think a custom grind is best suited for our trucks as there are soooo many variables (gearing, tire size, weight, etc...). Good luck.

Depending on what kind of drivability you want, I agree with Buckwheat, the 234/226 is top end horse power cam, the 224 on a 112 would certainly be a better choice... I did a 226/232 in a truck and made 390@ the wheels(manual transmission). Most trucks have a restrictive exhaust system so having the extra exhaust duration sure helps...

ispeed, you had a 226/232 cam in what truck with what motor and made 390??? had to be with a poweradder, or some kind of wicked 6.0 setup.

was the hotrod magazine test truck i had up here awhile back had the dyno sheet and everything...it was basically stock 5.7liter with stock LS6 heads prescribedpower cam, asmheaders, factory cats, upd induction, dual chambered exhaust, six speed manual tranny, 3:73's, mechanical fans... all the truck stuff still on it... short wheel base i personally ran the 1/4 up in michigan at 14.15 @97mph with a 2.8 sixty foot time, 20 inch rubber didn't hook up well...

Yes same truck as in burnout video, thing rev's fast!

454, sure i'll tune you up, if i start getting a bunch more truck customers I'll have to dig deep and give the car-puting guys more loot for unlimited versions of truck.
