Default Anyone have a 2500 silverado? I have 8.1L questions

Does anyone have the 2500 chevy silverado with the 496/8.1L motor?

How do you like it?

How does it do on gas?

Thanks

I am looking to get a lifted one right now...

Hey

Welcome to the site.

There are a few guys around here with the 8.1L. It might take a while for them to chime in though since they don't post a whole lot.

There was some discussion a while back about gas mileage if you want to try a search. I think some of the 8.1L guys replied.

I think most of them REALLY like the 8.1 though.

I edited the topic name so some of the 8.1L guys might check in faster.

As to the engine, what is there left to say about a born again "Rat", love it, sure has the ponies.

Two 8.1s here -

Supercharged 8.1 Suburban - 11-12 for city/highway driving

8.1 Silverado HD - 6" lift and 35" tires - 8-9 for city/highway driving.

I don't do alot of highway only driving unless I'm pulling a trailer. Mileage for both vehicles then goes down to about 7.5.

8.1 4x4ccswb 46,000 miles avg.9.7 city highway some towing 28ft car hauler.I have to mention average oil-burning 1qt. ever 900 miles in town a little less on freeway. Also more noise on start-up than my ls1 ever made.If these issues dont bother you go for it,I recommend Dmax.

2002 8.1 4x4 allison tranny, 34" tires, no lift. I pull a 3500 pound trailer for the majority of my miles and I get about 10mpg. I burn about a quart and a half of oil every 3000k miles. It has awsome low end and great pulling power but it's slower than a dead horse . I love the Dmax if you have the choice go with the Dmax it's a lot better motor imho.
