Default Anyone do any head work yet

Has anyone done a P/P on their heads yet ? I'm thinking of doing this in the near future with the heads of the old 4.8 and dropping them in until I build a 5.7 or bore and stroke the old 4.8 block. I am also probably get new springs and valves(thinking 2"). Looking to do this in the Houston area. I have one shop in mind to do the P/P but any recommendations and prices would be welcome. What kind of gains did you get out of it.

Head work with a cam would be very nice. I am sure you could get some slightly used LS1 valves for dirt cheap. Add LS6 springs (about $80) and a cam, and you should see some nice gains. With your 4.8, you shouldn't need much port work done. Just a mild port, nice polish and larger valves.

I told you to get a 5.3 / LS1 crank and rods put in when you had the engine out. It would have been worth it to slip the installer some money to do it. You would be driving a 5.3 right now.

Wasn't going to happen, I tried, but we didn't rebuild. Anyway, I've got bigger plans. I got the old motor back and a new one put in. I'm dreaming of a 382 stroker Realisticly, a modded 5.7 will probably happen. Our intakes, flow better than the cars and some of the cars are using truck heads for the same reason. All my options are open at this point. I don't have to be down to do anything until I cange the motor because, I got the entire long block back. I'm gonna have fun with it and try to do something that hasn't been done in the trucks yet.

Cars are using the truck heads to raise compression, but they most certainly sent the heads to get at least a stage 2 job done.

I would like to see you stroke that thing, but on the other hand, it would be nice to see a budget build up from it too.

How much did that aftermarket warranty cost you? Mine is up in March.

Mine cost about $1000. If you get one, get it before yours is up and before the milage runs out. It wiil be cheaper by about 2 or 3 hundred bucks. Better find you a mod freindly dealer if you whipple that thing. Some aftermarket warranty companies will see other than stock tires and void the whole thing(worst case senario) Mine only wanted to replace with a used engine, but I paid the extra $600 to get a new on. And no they would not let me pay extra for the 5.3. Since it was at a dealer, they couldn't CHANGE the emmisions and factory settings of the truck.
