Unhappy Any ideas/suggestions on what broke...

I'm currently on vacation in New Mexico and broke something when leaving a gas station. Basically I have no trans. I heard a loud pop and that was it, no reverse or drive at all. There are no fliud leaks, TC bolts are all tight, ATF is clean and not burnt. The engine starts and idles fine and no unusual noises when in gear. My guess is a blown TC but not sure on how to narrow it down, any suggestions?

Did you check the rear end and transfer case? It might not be the transmission at all.

I tried using the 4x4 with no luck. I left the truck in gear, pushed the gas pedal and looked under the truck, the driveshaft didn't move.

Sounds like a busted trans pump to me. If no fluid is flowing then nothing is gonna move. I've busted them before by not seating the torque converter all the way. Did your torque converter go in easy or was it kinda tight against the flexplate when you bolted it up?

BTW, if you take the top trans line off the radiator, start the truck, put it in gear and no fluid comes out then it's more than likely a busted pump. I'm no expert on the subject but have experience with that situation.

BTW, hold a rag over the trans hole just in case fluid starts pumping out.

you have probably blown up the sun gear and reaction shell, and in turn ablitorated the rear 4 pinion planatery. possibly shearing the output shaft in two, i have done this seven times in three months.
it goes something like this....
BAMMMM, then you coast to a stop. rev the motor a couple of times and here it rev up. so then you put it in 1st, then 2nd, then 3rd, OD, and try reverse. alas no worky. 2300 later you have a rebuilt trans. or a new one.

Yeah, that would probably do it too.

I think the 65E has the 5 pinion planetary but, I guess that can obliterate too.

Here's what I've come to, I talked to FLP and they told me to check my fluid level w/ the engine running. If the fluid level is good then the pump is still intact because if it wasn't, the fluid level would be considerably above the full mark. The fluid level checked out fine. I don't think my 5 pinion planetary broke, not that it isn't possible but, FLP has an EXCELLENT rep. for building transmissions and the trans wasn't under much load when this happened. Chuck suggested getting my line pressure checked, if the pressure checks out, he said it's more than likely a blown TC. I should know by tomorrow.

Yes a 5 pinion planetary can obliterate I've destroyed two of them in the past six months and bam discription is correct, the pump doesn't usually go out with a bang I've done that one too.The reaction shell can go out with a bang too I've done that one too.My guess is the planetary though.
