I'm not talking about SEAFOAM, what I used was a oil chemical flush, I added it to the engine oil and ran it about 2K RPMs for about 15 to 20 minutes, changed the oil and filter and done.

So today I called the local Chevy dealership and I gave them my VIN for the Chariot. I asked for history of the GM Warranty work that was done. Here's something interesting...

01/30/04 - Oil pump suction pipe and screen assembly replacement
01/30/04 - Lifter, valve - both banks replaced

Both done at 31,184 miles.

I hope this answers some questions.

I know this is an old thread but........ I've had a mild piston slap for several years. Now with 125k on the clock its getting louder. Only when its set over night and not idling. Put it in gear and the load makes it slap. 30 seconds later its gone for the day. Any suggestions?

Sounds like the characteristic piston slap, it's basically the pistons rocking in the cylinders until they heat up and expand, not a whole lot you can do about it. If you say it's gotten louder, the regular piston slap may be combined with some noise from the piston hitting a ridge of carbon that has built up on the top of the cylinder over time. You could try the Seafoam treatment that was mentioned a few posts up, it will help to clean some of the carbon out of the intake, cylinders, valves, and combustion chambers

Thanks Billy, I hadn't thought about the carbon adding to the condition.

There is a TSB for an engine knock/noise at idle.

The main cause is a cracked flywheel according to alldata pro and identifix.
