Default Alternator choices--need advice quick!!!!

Okay guys...since I'm trying to take the truck to this show in the Virgin Islands, I need to get a new alternator today. I figure that I'll go ahead and upgrade to a higher output alternator because it'll be easier to sell once I convert to the car accessories. I'm just in a spot and I need to get one today.

I've done some searching but I can't come up w/ a whole lot. I've seen that Denali and I think Escalade alternators are rated higher. I've also read that the 05's have a different connector plug. My question is: which GM alternator should I go with that will work on my 2001 Sierra? Part numbers would be helpful, but not 100% necessary. Application is more important than anything...if someone could tell me which GM truck/SUV has/had the highest rated alternator stock ASAP so I can get one and put it on the truck tonight. Thanks guys!

I believe the Tahoe/Suburban platform vehicles have the 140amp alt. That includes Denali/Escilade

Sorry to post too many times, but have you thought about not turning your old on in right away and having the old case chrome plated? It would look sweet under the hood.

I'm going to convert to the car accessories eventually. I'm going to get an F-body alternator and have the case sent out for chrome when I get the accessory brackets and a few other things done.

Thanks man.

I found a 130-amp alternator Delco brand new at the dealership for $287...I wonder if the extra 15 amps would really be worth the trouble? I don't believe that they had the 145-amp one.

Will the 145-amp alternator work with no mods to my 2001's setup?

Mine bolted right in, I just had to get the longer belt...as far as compatability with the PCM, I'd assume so, but I'm not sure (I did the 99-02 PCM upgrade)

I paid $100 shipped for a new take-off from a non-sponsor

I'm just a little worried about the belt length since I have the underdrive crank and overdrive alt pulleys. The lengths w/ and w/o the pulley are different. I gues I could get the gates belt that James listed in his conversion post and leave the alt pulley off. Those belts are too damn expensive to replace for no reason though.

Decisions, decisions.
