Thumbs down Allright, help me with my driving clunk...

Okay, it's only from the rear of the truck. I'm fairly sure it's not a u-joint as I get no high speed vibrations. Or could it be that?

My spring isolaters are still on the rear leaf springs too.

Any ideas where this is coming from? And a fix for it?

My truck is 4x4 if that helps but this is coming from the rear not the front and when I am driving. I have the R to D clunk but I know what causes that.

Only happens when the assend goes over a bump, the sound is very hollow too.

Thanks!

lot of clunks going on all of a sudden. mine was carrier bearing being loose but it was an accel decel thing. when you say bump, big bump or stutter bump ? i think all our trucks clunk over big bumps like speed bumps. have you checked if your shocks are cool ? if the seal is blown it could let your asend drop fast and clunk. all i can say is check everything twice and have someone outside the truck listen for it while you make it happen. sometimes it's really hard to isolate location from in the cab. e

It's most likely the tranny yoke. GM has a service bulletin out for this 'clunk' noise. Apparently there remedy is to replace it with an improved nickel version. Here is the TSB#01-04-17-004

Here is a great write-up related to the problem

Hope this helps.

Well it happens on speed bumps or other bumps too, it's rather annoying.

It's a very hollow metal sound, just started a few weeks ago tops.

My truck doesn't bounce all over the place so I don't think it's going to be a shock. I'm going to spy at my u-bolts tomorrow and the transfercase area also.

My freakin' tailgate makes a klunk now. I looked at it the other day and the little plastic sleeves that fit over the latch stud are worn through. It makes a klunk over each significant bump in the road. This is probably not your sound as it is easy to tell on mine that it is not from under the bed, but behind. I like the shock idea especially if they are factory. Good luck. Let us know what you find.
