Mine ticks all the time now but, it's got over 100K miles on it. I still run the crap outta it....well, as much as I can with a bad transmission.

Mine always ticks, hot or cold. Pretty much always been that way. Not sure if it's gotten louder through the years or if I'm just more in tune with it. Keeps on running good, so I'm happy Now if one day I hear *SLAM* and the ticking goes away ...then I guess I'll start looking into my wallet for the next build up

Same thing with mine. But I always thought that the ticking would get replaced with a banging.

I think the idle on our trucks is too low stock 500 rpm's come on thats not even enough to get the oil to the top.

ever since I turned the idle to 700 no more ticking funny sounds etcc....
even on very cold startups I crank it and let it run for a minute and havent heard a freakin peep since I moved the idle

Mine has also always ticked, but only at idle... Not a single tick, but a "clatter" of ticks, or a "rapid ticking".

Mine's not sickly sounding, it's just there.

I had a 4.3L with a "lifter tick". Whatever makes the noise, is not that.

Mine has this also, usually only at start up, but I have another problem, using 1 1/2 quarts of oil at 1500 miles , truck has 52,xxx on it, the dealership is doing a oil consumption test on it, will see what the next step is today. Sorry got off the subject a little.
