Default All aluminum 6.0 in the new Vette.....

So what did the engineers do this time to get 400 hp and 400 ft/lbs out of the 6.0 in the Vette? Also, how much lighter do you think that engines weighs than the iron blocked 6.0?

The new 6.0L LS2 package is qouted as 15 lbs lighter than the LS1 package it replaces. I believe the LS1 is about 70lbs lighter than the current iron 6.0L. The LS2 enjoys a 30% increase in intake flow(90mm TB, intake manifold, and probably 90mm + intake tract as well), a revised LS6 style head with unshrouded valves, almost 1 point compression increase over the LS1, 13% increase in valve lift numbers(no info given on the duration of the new cam yet, though) compared to the LS1 motor, and a much straighter/higher flowing exhaust path.

So basically sorta like a mild heads/cam/intake setup from the factory?

Last I heard, the LS2 is basically a new engine. IE: the parts won't swap between LS1 and LS2 because the block/heads are longer.

sucks for the new vette owners ... it'll be another couple of years before they can have any modifications for their car.

c'mon....how DUMB is THAT !!!!

if GM had ANY sense at all they would make the LS2 backwards compatible....both for thier own sake and the sake of the owners, you would think it would be MUCH cheaper for them to re-use parts and just re-design the block and heads around them

very true there yelo, that means tons more parts for them to deal with, with different specs to use, and just screws the aftermarket up horribly. I imagine they will use the same truck engines for a while though....

I thought the LS2 was getting 3-valve heads?

It's possible that it was easier and or cheaper to create a new design for the motor than to rework the current LS1 in order to reach their goals.

The guys in the internal engine section thought that they were all going to be interchangable. There are different sensor locations on the ls2 block, but I though they figured it would still work. I can't remember all the details on it, but I know it was something along those lines.
