Default Air intake

I currently have an slp cai on my 2004 5.3. The other day while driving the silicone connector came loose from the plastic tube. This caused my truck to instantly die, causing substantial loss to steering and brakes. Luckily I was almost stopped at a light. I refired my truck and pulled into a p-lot. I reconnected the silicone connector to the tube, and no more problems. I don't like the clamps provided with the kit because they crush the plastic tubing creating a flat area. Anyone else with an slp kit experience this? Should I ditch the slp kit and buy a new one? Should I just get online and buy my own silicone connector and clamp? The other thing I have noticed is there is a significant amount of heat build up in the air intake. After letting the truck idle for a bit the silicone connector and plastic tube are extremely hot. I'm assuming this is normal.

I also have the same intake. The plastic can warp a little because of the heat(normal). I have it down to where it doesn't crush in too much but isn't too loose either. Been this way for several years now, never had the clamp pop loose. maybe try a thin piece of metal tubing inside the plastic.

Didn't think of that. I figured I could order a silicone connector slightly longer than what came with the kit, and find a different style of clamp.
