Default Aftermarket trantemp gauge

I installed my AutoMeter tran temp gauge a few weeks back and finally got around to doing all the wiring for it today.

I mounted the sender in the pressure port of the tranny. This was the only place I found that was already available for use. I don't believe this is a good place for the sender, since it is not immersed in tranny oil in order to give a proper temp value.

I'm thinking of eventually tapping the pan and installing it there.

What have others done?

Well, no one ever responded to this, but I do have my answer now that I have Autotap and I can see what's going on.

Based on what I see being logged and what I see on the gauge, I need to relocate to the pan as the pressure port is not reliable. At least not as reliable as I would like it to be.

YMMV

Ok, I have moved my sensor to the pan, but I'm still showing a discrepancy between the gauge and Autotap. The gauge is showing usually 25-30 degrees cooler.

Why would this be?
Are any of you experiencing this?

seeing a difference between guages is not unusual. keep in mind that the sender for the ECM is actually a physical part of the transmission valve body, it will be subject to heat soak from the metal of the tranny itself. make sense?
