Default 99 Z71 4x4 just lost 5.3 looking for swap

okay... just registered so be gentle!

I just lost my 99 Z71 4x4 Extended Cab with 5.3L this morning with what sounds like a rod spin. I am the original owner and can't complain with 184K miles on the clock. My question and/or advise I'm looking for deals with swapping to a newer LS1/2 or possibly just to a 2008 6.0L out of a Z71 found with only 14K miles. Or should I be looking for something else? Any success stories - failures would be great. I have a small Corvette restoration shop, so NO short comings on turning wrenches!

Any help or advise would be appreciated. Maybe direction to a thread already posted. Thanks for the attention.

I would go for the quick and easy 6.0 swap! not sure on whats all different on the 07-up motors though....someone will chime in and let you know if anything is different with them that will not allow the swap im sure. I say find a LQ9 and swap it out though easy and a jump in the performance department! Good luck

the easiest is to use an 01-07 6.0. It's a direct drop in.

I'm doing the same swap mow. I have an LQ9 longblock comming for 3250.00 with core. I will freshen the trans at the same time.

Is there a change in the 08 6.0L vs 01-07's? Reason being that 08's are coming in the market with low miles. Thanks so far!

I was hoping someone did an LS engine swap! I have low mileage LS1 - LS2 and even a new LS6, but I know the value of these are exceeding the truck!

The 08's have a different crankshaft reluctor ring for the crank sensor (52 teeth I believe), vs. 24 teeth for the older gen engines. You would have to swap reluctor rings or PCM's. The knock sensors are also in a different location, and I believe that the cam sensor is driven off of the cam gear instead of the rear of the camshaft, so some modifications are necessary to make it work. 99-07 is a direct drop in with only tuning required.
