Default 99 7.4, 454 ?

Why is you dont see any parts listed for the 454 trucks. I have been in the market for a 8100 for some time, but the bank just got in a repoed 99 model with 454.. if its cheap i was thinking i might go with that, but there does not seem to be anything listed for it on line. Any reason for this or am i just looking in the worng spot.

Try looking under a 98 model, 98 and 99 are the same truck.

Those are for the 350 not the 454. I think the later 454 are rated at 300-330 hp and 450 ft-lbs. I know the 502 retro engine is rated at 320 hp and 515 ft-lbs and the 94 454 is rated at 300 hp and 400 ft-lbs.

so there is not a lot of difference in the "old" 454 and the "new" 496. in terms of hp and tq.

That's a Vortec 7.4,I had one in a 96 Suburban 9.6to1 compression with good fuel injection ran about the same as a stock 5.3 performance wise, but you'll be lucky if you get better than 11mpg.

Actually that is quite good for a 4 ton beast Suburban to keep up with 5.3. My dad had a GMC Dually which was not fast at all but could pull just about anything, damn manual. The most this truck ever saw was 28,876 lb, and that was towing a 9 ton cougar cage, and the goose neck flat bed was the rest, on this particular trip of 150 miles the truck averaged 6 mpg at 55 mph.
