Question 99 or 02 pcm tables discussion? (Hey Tex and Gonzo)

Ok gents I have a question to pick your minds with. My 99 Silverado with 5.3, ported heads, Crane cam, shortys, egr delete, rear 02 delete, edit, etc. I know the 99 program sucks major ***. I have an 02 file and I was looking at it in edit and noticed a much smoother timing table then what I have now. Also many other features are different specs such as decay, throttle cracker, etc.
My truck runs damn strong. It will lay a shitload of rubber through first and grab one hell of a second. I guess my question will be will I benefit from changing the timing tables to the 02 ones. What all should I change on my 99 program from the 02 program? Thought about also just changing the 02 tables to match what I have now (rpm, tm, shift points, codes and so on) then putting the 02 program in. Opinions please. I have seen the 02s run the best times from the regular throttle body days.

I swaped an 02 table into my 00 program just for the same reason you stated, it looked alot smoother. It seems to pull a little better in the upper rpm now.

As long as the changes seem reasonable, it should be ok to try it.

Jody
I would chime in but its over my head,On mine I have played ,swapped in and out 2 Ed wright PCM's and I have a westers, the westers works good but I dont run it because he shut off the EGR part way and it sets a light every time I start it.The Ed wight I have been running most of the time. Now for my buddy's 02 denali project we ordered LS1 edit (I got one for mine I have yet to mess with it) but for his we down loaded the stock tune into a laptop and emailed it to Kevin at eastside and he did a mild tune for the AZ speed,UPD HD flowproand sent it back. Now that the AP heads and cam are here we will get another tune from kevin in few weeks and toss on the H&C +yank, and the wide band it with LM1. BigTeX can step in anytime.

Here I am, sorry Jody.

On my 99, I went table by table and edited my 99 file with the 02 values. It ran fine, but not much better than before. The 02s do have more timing from the factory. One thing to note, LS1 Edit doesn't show every table and setting in the PCM. I know the 02s have some differnt internal parameters that can be messed with using edit. The 02 is going o be setup without EGR, and the fueling, timing, and other ratios will be different because its not expecting EGR to alter the A/F mix. My point is that just mirroring the 02 edit tables on a 99 PCM flash won't make the 99 an 02 tune.

Think of it this way: LS1 edit gives you access to the parameters that the motor follows. But a big part that isn't seen is how the PCM uses those values.

I think you would be better off taking an 02 PCM and tune and making that your PCM. If you do, you may have to upgrade to 00+ injectors if you haven;t already.

Thanks everybody. Tex that is what I was thinking. Some tables are not visible in edit and just if you switch tables on timing what about fuel, air and other parameters. I have upgraded injectors and I am right on the edge of maxing them out. I am at 92% duty cycle. My truck runs strong for the behemoth it is. Just wondering if anybody else has tried it and had successful results.

I was able to get my 99 running pretty well by altering most of the tables to an 02 config, but the knock out box made the biggest difference. It still had the problem of filling in 26* timing in the table and only putting out 21* without any KR. I think there are still lots of small tables with correction factors and such in the 99s that we can't see.

I remember looking at someone's 02 autotap log years ago (before Edit was available). I saw their timing in the low/mid 20* range which I thought was amazing since my 99 with the hypertech 93 tuning barely gave me 20 at peak.
