ok i put her in{by myself} --houston we have a problem. my converter bolts do not line up. as a matter of fact they are around a 3/8 inch off. here is a pic of the flywheel and verter. also they are only using three of the six holes. did i miss something? does anyone have the part number for the flywheel for the flexplate from when they did there swap. if so i need it real bad.

 

I used the one that came from the truck the tranny did. It was an 03 Chevy 2500 with a 6.0. Any competant parts counter person could get you a part number for that.

I seem to remember a similar scenario where someone found out there are 2 different bolt patterns for the 80e converter.

Do the holes line up with the raised part of the flex plate or are they on the edge? If they are on the raised completely, you could try drilling new holes for it. Just make for damn sure the snout of the converter is in the flaxplate and it's all perfectly centered, otherwise you will be out of balance. If it's not all balanced, it will prolly go through some main bearings and ultimatly a crankshaft, and possibly the whole tranny.

 

oh it is centered. it lines up with the holes it is just a smaller pattern.

 

Can you drill new holes without the new holes being on the edge of the raised area or interferring with the old ones?

Do you not have the flywheel and flexplate from a 6.0 or are you saying that yours simply doesnt line up??

 

I ran into the same crap with my Yank. The Midwest converter I bought first lined up perfectly but the Yank had some weird pattern like you have there where the bolts were all about a half a hole off. I couldn't find a logical answer or solution so I just elongated the holes and slapped it together. So far it has held up to a lot of 118mph+ qtr mile passes with no probs. I dont have a pic but the way I did it was to just make it big enough to clear the bolt, where there is no slack side to side.

 

yes it is off a 6.0. that is why it has 6 holes/ i think i need one from a diffrent year model i guess.
