8.1 Whipple intercooler installed
#1

I wrapped up the Whipple intercooler installation this afternoon. It's a pretty easy install that only takes a few hours complete. The water pump is mounted in front of the passenger's side front tire and the tank is attached to the firewall on the same side. I'll be sending Whipple's computer into them on Wednesday so it can be updated and will then change the pulley after that goes back in.
Almost time to head to the track!

Took it out for a ride tonight and can tell you that it flys! Tried to get a Mustang to race but I don't think he thought I was serious. I hammered it when the light changed, lite up the tires and had the truck going sideways into 2nd. I don't think they were used to seeing a Suburban going down the road sideways with the tires blazing
Should be nice with some extra boost and then I'll work on getting it dialed in with a highflow induction.

I want to see pictures of that thing getting sideways from a start. That would be awesome. How about a smoking burnout pic at least.

Nooooooooooooo!!!!!!! No more smokey burnouts with the Suburban!!!! I finally got around to cleaning the rear quarters tonight. I've never had to take that much rubber off of a vehicle. Must be something with the Firestone tires because they turned extreamly gooey after my last burnout.
Here's your picture -

and you can find a burnout video on the opening page of the website.

Hey Tom, the new intercooler looks good on there.
Got a question. Have you had any problems with the Whipple setting off the check engine light & sending the truck into "reduced engine power" mode?
I'm wondering if it's a 2002 problem, an Allison compatability issue, or just an 8,1 issue.
I keep having problems with mine (5 times so far), I'm about ready to take it back off until Whipple can get their stuff together.
Just curious.

I know just what you mean Tom. I've got the same tires and after only 3 or 4 short burnouts at the track the fenderwell was covered in shredded rubber. These damn things leave more rubber on the track than a pair of Goodyear slicks on John Force's funny car.

449pacecar: Haven't had any problems so far (thank God!). What has Whipple told you about this?
Neil 6.0: I accidently stepped in a pile of smouldering after taking the pictures and video. Tracking it into the truck (need new mats now), plus into the garage and office. A total PITA to clean. Zaino took it off the truck pretty easily though.
