Default 6 Speed Bolt on Questions

What years would work to bolt on a 6 speed transmission? On a 2000 silverado 4.8 manual transmission?

I was asking about this and I have been told that the clutch disc will need to come from the 6-speed due to a different spline but the clutch linkage will hook up ok. It will mount to your crossmember with no problems at all, but you will need a shorter, custom drive shaft made. Gearing will be drastically taller so you will want to drop down to at least a 4.56. Remember this is 2nd hand info from a guy on here who did it, but I think he knows what he is talking about. I think I'm gonna hold on to my 5-speed until I get sick of rebuilding it, but the 6-speed it tempting because of the ability to change ratios.

I think that I am sick of the buying transmissions. Due to the mishap over the weekend of snapping drive shaft. I am just going to replace the transmission now and get the new customs shorter drive shaft made. So your saying that I need the new clutch disk but, everything else will work?!! I have 373 gears anyway so I would be good on that.

I think 1truess said that the stock 4l60 drive shaft worked fine. The 6 speed and the 4l60 was the same length. Finally some info on this swap. I've got a hard on.

Not sure if the 3.73 will be low enough that's quite a bit taller than a 4.56. 6gear is the guy who has actually done it, so you might want to PM him for more info.
