Default 6.0 swap ?'s

I searched the forums and didnt see exactly what I was looking for, so excuse me if this has been covered before.

I'm on my second 5.3, and its knocking again. (WTF gives?)

Anyhow I'm considering a 6.0 swap this time. Nothing major, i just want to swap a pretty much stock 6.0 with a nice cam, headers and the usual bolt on's. My main cocern is the tranny. Will the 60e be able to hold up to the 6.0 at all with not much work and a shift kit? WOuld it be better to beef up the 60 e, or consider getting a 65e/80e? I have a 4x4 so I dont know if that will be an issue either. I wouldn't think it should be. I just want to have decent power but moreso, I want to be reliable and streetable. It is a daily driver, not used offroad much, but isgiven hell from time to time when responding to EMS calls or fire calls.

I've never done anything like this on a new vehicle, all 80's or before so any suggestions would be great. Also any recommendatins on a cam and stall?

Thanks alot. Sry for the long post.

The 60e will live behind a mostly stock 6.0 for a good long time.....look for a 01+ 6.0 so you'll have the correct length crank flange

I think it's only iffy if you remove T/M in the tune. My 4L60e has 85k on it and I run the **** out of my truck, almost daily. Everybody always puts down the Hypertech and raves about these mail order tunes, and they are the guys putting 2 and 3 transmissions in a 14 or 15 second truck. I just don't believe that I have been that lucky with my trans. Sure, a mail order tune might give you an extra tenth or so, by removing or lowering the T/M, but it's not worth it to me. This Hypertech knocked a half of a second off of my truck, going from 15.4 to 14.9 before the converter, and I can't really see a custom tune netting much more than that. Of course, the more mods, the less the HppIII becomes of use, but for some of these guys just wanting a 14 or 15 second truck, I think the mail order tunes are a waste. For the money you can get a used handheld (cheap) and something else, like e-fans, which is a better bang for the buck.

You're knocking the removal of TM but yet you're spraying a 100 shot on your stock engine.....

You can always chance it and see what happens. 4wd puts a bit more stress on that tranny with a 6L. Whats the worst that can happen. If its gonna die.... Its gonna die!

Agreed essentially. For only slightly more u can get a custom tune! I don't see how mail orders can do the job on a truck they haven't driven. Every one is different. I tried the mail order, and it just wasn't able to do the job on the truck once I put the radix, without sitting down and doing the tweeking required to maximize the tune. I ended up with the custom tune and it cost me $100 more and I get personal service and almost 4hrs in the truck making passes and altering the tune. R/

Well I have 80% TM removed already. Its been acting fine so far but I just wanted to see what all would have to be upgraded so it won't die. I plan on doing a transgo and servo's and all that also.
