Talking 6.0 questions?

This summer I am planning on dropping a 6.0 lq4 or lq9 into my 01 z71 standardcab stepside and was wondering from all the guys that have done this if you went with a complete engine or just the block and heads? Does everything transfer over if I get just the block and heads? Also where can I get a good price on a 6.0? What kind of money am I looking to spend to have this installed?

I went complete. Didnt want to rebuild one. I wanted a good runner to put in. Check on www.car-part.com for a motor. Great place to start. Motor will run anywhere from 1000-1500 for a full LQ4. Even more for a complete LQ9. Im not sure what the going rate is to install the thing. Somebody will chime in on that. Im doing my own install.

I did heads and cam on my motor before it went in. But i know i paid about 1500 for a complete LQ4. It had everything, right down to the oxygen sensors. I ended up using my stock 5.3L computer, as the LQ4 has a drive-by-wire throttle body, and you would have to rewire for that. You'll probably end up doing the same thing. Before you drop the motor in, at least put in a cam. You will NOT regret it.

If you get someone to do the install, look for labor rates up close to $2000. Id suggest doing it yourself, its not very hard at all.

My motor had about 45,000 on it. I replaced the main bearings in it and checked oil clearances however, just to be safe.

If you are patient you can find a fairly low mile engine for that much $.
