Default 6.0 Build up

Hey guys,
I have a 2001 2500hd with a 6.0L. I want to do a head and cam swap to try and make about 100hp over stock. The truck has 37" tires and 4.88 gears. Im trying to keep this as low budget as possible and don't want to have to get into things like getting a new torque converter, throttle body, squirters, ect. I have plenty of experience with gen I motors but dont really know that much about these new ones so I have a few questions.

Are lsx heads a direct bolt on for this motor?
If not, how close are they?
Also I would like a consensus on what heads and cam you think I should use. (they dont have to be the lsx heads; or you can let me know if you have a better idea of a way to do this) I want to be able to hear the cam a little bit, I was thinking something along the lines of a 220/220 or a 224/224.

Thanks,
Matt

6.0 . . . I'm running a 222/224 566 568 -112 with the stock stall

Seeing how this is your first post, use the search for some more ideas if you're looking for a faster response. Do a search for "6.0 cam"

figure out what your goals are for the engine/truck and what's it going to be used for the most. Meaning what will this truck do everyday.

I guess I forgot to tell everyone why it is that I want to do this mod so here it goes. My truck has had piston slap since the day I bought it in 2001. Its not as bad as some trucks I have heard but it is definitely noticeable. My truck has just turned 76000 miles and recently it has rapidly been burning oil. I have been tracking if for the last 4000 miles and it has been about 1 quart every thousand miles. To remedy this I first checked all the usual suspects, pcv valve, vent lines, oil leaking out the bottom, but all of these are fine and it does not appear that oil is being sucked into the intake or leaking out of the pan. This leads me to the conclusion that i am either leaking oil past the rings or past the valve seats. I am leaning toward the it leaking past the rings because of the piston slap issue. So I am planning on tearing down the engine to replace the rings and am hoping that it does not need to be over bored or honed (but i will have to wait and see on that one) all thought i suspect it will. Being me, I can never leave well enough alone, I want try and make a few more ponies while im in there and in my experience to have a realy noticiable difference in perfromance you need to get about 100 more hp or else to me its not really worth doing anything at all.

About what the truck will be used for; This truck is my daily driver. It gets me to and from work every day, about 50 miles in the Texas hill country so its a lot of up and down. I am trying to keep this build on the mild side so that i dont get into the big $ on this one. The truck tows very rarely due to the fact that I have access to a durmax when I need it.

Thanks again,
Matt

I imagine you are well aware of this but you will need some tuning for whatever you go with so keep that in mind. IMO a 224 cam like mentioned above is a good mannered cam in a 6.0, you could go bigger no problem but it depends how much low end you want to loose. As far as heads, I dont see a point in going for the LSX heads for that setup. WCCH has some great heads as well as many others.
