So to install a 2001+ do you just use your existing flex plate off of the 5.3?

plus 350hp and 380tq. wait till you find a LQ9. you will be happier in the end, even tho some will say its not worth the extra money blah blah cause you can mod the LQ4.... and they forget you can mod the LQ9 as well and then where are you? out in front. thats all that matters

i am the blah blah guy

just look for both and think about it before you buy. if the lq9 cost $1000 more then it most likly isn't worth it. they are harder to find and will likly cost that much more or even more than that.

if you are thinking boost or significant build someday then the extra money for a lq9 is definately not worth it.

as far as what year. just get an 01 or newer, dont mess with the older ones. if it doesn't have aluminum heads then there it is likly a 00 or older.

i dont really know much about these engines but if the only realy difference between a lq4 and lq9 is pistons wasn't it pointless for you to but one (other then run in the 10's on it) because you now have a 408. or did you not plan on getting the 408 this soon? im just wondering if there is something else that maybe i dont know about

oh and i am thinking about getting a lq4 but i have a 60E trans, im not sure if i will have the engine before the trans blow and i swap out to an 80E. i was wondering what year engines would be able to accomadate both trans?

my motor was a lq4(non ho, lower compresion), i dont think that extra .6pt of compresion is worth much but if you are NA and staying NA then it is worth a little.

just get a 2001 or newer with aluminum heads. doesn't matter if it is a lq4 or lq9, they are the same other than the pistons and either will work with the 4l60e or the 4l80e.
