just get a 2001 or newer with aluminum heads. doesn't matter if it is a lq4 or lq9, they are the same other than the pistons and either will work with the 4l60e or the 4l80e.
my bad i thought your old truck was a lq4 and the new truck was an lq9.

I just purchased the 2003 LQ4 without EGR. It should have several key improvements including modifications to improve cold start noise. There many older versions kicking around. Beware.

the new trucks dont have EGR's anymore. hmm maybe i will take mine off then.

could you take a 03 6.0 and put it in a 2000 truck that has a cable throttle body, or would there be a lot more modifications to do?

no modifications, just use the shortblock from the 6.0 and use all of your accesories. you can try using the 03 intake to get rid of the egr but is seems like there is a vacume line missing when you try to bolt you cable throttle body on there. might be wrong on that, not sure.
