Default 6.0 to 8.1 Swap Questions /Advice

Helping a friend to swap out his stock 6.0 with Westers tune in a ECSB 02 4x4 with 4L80E & 4.10's for a 03 8.1 very low mileage stock engine ....looks pretty straight forward ........maybe have to upgrade the rad not sure ...........any surprises we should know about ?? So far need to swap out the drive by wire TB , hopefully the 6.0 is the same size ......

Question ....while the 8.1 on the stand any mods we shpould do now .......this is for a tow vehicle only .........the 8.1 has an elaborate EGR system on it ......what are pros and cons of removing ......Westers will be updating the pcm for the swap .......all advice appreciated

get rid of the EGR, it will keep the intake tract much cleaner...

maybe mill the heads and put in a small cam?? should help in tq and getting the load going...

also, curious on your choice of an 8.1L vs modded 6L

OK understand the cleaner intake with no EGR ......what is downside and do you need to reprogram for the lost "fuel" from egr

The cost to mod the 6.0 for increased low speed torque was far greater than the price of this 8.1 ...IMO bolt ons to the 6.0 would not give the low speed torque the stock 8.1 will ......power adder yes but alot cheaper to go to the 8.1

understandable...

Just tune out the trouble codes accosiated with the EGR and you'll be set, no fueling changes will be needed.

anyway to up the compression some will increase the low end tq... thats why I suggested milling the heads.

TB are the same size but the radiators are much bigger. What size truck is it? On a 1500 the frame is narrower and getting a engine mount to work may be a problem.
