Default 6.0 408 help.

Hey guys my stock block locked up (spun main) i priced on labor and parts to get back on road its $2500 to rebuild my block $2800 to buy a fresh Stock Short Block or $3800 and some change for a 408 Stroker. I decided to shell out a extra 1k for a little bit more trq, hp and forged internals since im driving a 6000lb street boat. Only thing is i don't know which is best so many to choose from. Hoping you guys can enlighten off of experiences andor knowledge.

Edward

The ATK stuff is good. I had a 6.0 long block from them and it never gave me an issue.

Dunno about AMS though.

becides on quality of the build mainly i figure you need to make sure what relucter wheel you have and what piston is in it. mostly you will need to know what heads are going on top so that you can figure out the compression you are aiming for. going to need to get some heads that flow pretty good or you might be leaving hp on the table.

what about skipping the 408 what about just sticking with a nice forge rebuilt 6l and get some ported heads that flow more?

depending on the side of town you are on Late Model Engines do some pretty nice work and are on the west side.

those do look pretty but im talking about the chamber where the combustion happens. basically the area where the sparkplug is.

in the first pic it from what i can tell it still is the stock casting there as it is still ruff like it is. if that is the case then it should be ~64.5-65cc chambers. best way is to lay some grease lightly around the chamber, put a sparkplug and valves in, and a small piece of plexi or glass over it. count how many cc of water fills up that area. CC=ml

if it is just stock then look for a build with around a 18cc dished piston to keep the compression around 10.3:1 and you can run premium gas only.
