Unhappy 5spd shifting slow at high RPMs

Hey guys I have been lurking here for a while and learning alot. This is a pretty good site. I ran a search on this board and the manual tranny board board and couldnt find anything so here goes. Is there any kind of mod that you can do to the tranny/ hydraulics to speed up the shifing? Is there a restriction in the clutch line like the camaros? When I push the clutch in it has to be on the floor to get the thing to disengage properly but when the RPMs are up around 4 grand there is a lag time before she will go into the next gear. I can get it out of gear and part way into the next then its like it is hitting a wall for about 2 seconds then goes right in. Lower RPMs are a breeze. The setup is a stock 03 2500HD 4x4 6.0 with NV 4500 with 4.11s with 3000 miles on it. I realize that this is a heavy duty tranny but I think that it should be able to shift a little faster. Especially going by its part throttle shifts. My old trucks muncie CH 465 would definatly outshift this thing and they used them in trucks up to 2.5 tons!! Thanks for the help guys.

I would guess that's just the nature of the heavy trucks manual tranny. I think the truck trannies are a little heavier duty than the cars, hence the lag/hard shifting.

Welcome to the boards !

You have 4.10's in there, 4.11 is a Ford gear.

You can get 4.10s and 4.11s through the years. Not just a ford gear. They were usually staggered in the 4X4 diffs depending on which axles ya had. The thing is that it seems to take longer to shift at higher RPMs. It shifts quick at low engine speeds that I usually shift at. I uually dont even spin it up to 3000 RPM. I am considering swapping the cam to a small comp model 54-408-11 once the motor is out of warranty but I dont see the point if it wont shift at the top end. I dont want to go to big though as it does see pulling duty at times. I just want to optimize the truck. I am also thinking about a westers ECM or possable learning to use LS1 edit one of these days. I want to do a little moding to the stock programimg. I know that there is more torque off idle and that slow reaction time in the gas pedal (for smothness of throttle over bumps) drives me crazy. I just want to get this thing setup so that I am happy with it for the long run.
