Default 5.3l ls6 cam or no cam

I just bought a 5.3l motor with 56k on it and before I put it in I was thinking about throwing in an ls6 cam and springs. This is my only can choice because I am on a very tight budget . However I have had HORRIBLE luck with cams I had a large custom grind in my ls1 and I blew up a valve and ruined a piston. Fixed It and put a hot cam in and blew up the crank. I want the car to be reliable and don't wanna fix it again.

The other question. Is if u guys recommend putting it in do I need new pushrods or can I use the stockers

if the cam is free or reall cheap go for it. i put one in my 5.3 and it put down 296rwhp, and 302rwtq in my ecsb truck, and all i had done to it was borla muff, home ported heads, cai, and tuning. but there is better choices of cams out there. u do need springs, pushrods though. other people should be able to chime in and give better input

I agree, those cams can be found used on the cheap, and LS6 springs are cheap...go for it

Go for it! the 5.3 takes very well to the ls6 cam, just about the best budget setup!

Yes the 4.8 also works great with the ls6 cam.... I prefer the 02+ ls6 cam but the pre 02 ls6 are good budget cams also.

The 4.8 and 5.3 have proven over and over to make good gains from an ls6 cam.... if your on a tight budget its a very good option!
