Default 5.3L knock sensor?

my little brother has a 2000 GMC sierra Z71 with the 5.3L engine. his SES light came on and we took it to autozone and had it scanned. It came back with low voltage to knock sensor. Know it is my understanding the knock sensor(s) are under the intake on this engine? is this correct? does anyone have any links or literature to the procedure for replacing this thing? I told him to invest in a service manaul to find all the torque specs and what not. could someone possibly provide the torque specs and sequence for the plastic intake if in fact it has to come off. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes it's under the intake. Just go to Autozone and pick up a service manual. It will save you alot of headaches. Manual pretty much covers everything.

Like Jerry said, under the intake. It's a fairly simple job, worst part is removing the wiring harness. Luckily, GM put unique connectors on everything except the injectors. That is the only thing to be careful with, but even then the wire lengths make it somewhat foolproof.
Good luck, it's not too bad a job...

there's a TSB out regarding this problem and a supposed fix involving building a "dam" with RTV. Here's a link to the instructions, good luck!

Question

I know this is old, but I will be helping my brother replace his knock sensor in his 2001 5.3L Z71. SES light went off and recieved code P0332. That tells me the knock sensor went bad I guess.
Ok to the questions:
Can you reuse the intake minifold gaskets? Or do you suggest replacing them with new ones?
I assume the coolant will need to be drained as well prior to intake manifold replacement?
What else will I need?
What type of RTV gasket sealant do I use?
I remember reading about a certain kind of silcone spray to use on the gasket surfaces. What is it and where do I get it?
Thanks,

Jim

If the gaskets are in good shape, then yes, they can be reused.

NEVER use silicone spray or RTV on your intake. Any silicone that goes through the combustion chambers is converted to silica, which will ruin your O2 sensors.

You shouldn't have to drain the coolant, but you will have to remove the coolant hoses freom the throttle body. Just take a small bolt and plug the end of the hose while you work on the intake.
