5.3 Truck Mods?
Hey Guys. My Dad just bought a 2003 GMC extended cab 5.3 truck. What are some easy mods I could do to it for him to get it running a little quicker? Not looking for huge power, just maybe a little gas milage and enough power so he can be quicker than his work buddies with the same type of truck, lol.
Thanks!!
Thanks!!

UPD intake and some better exaust would give him plenty of power to get by his work buddies. the hypertech would be great too, and plenty of people are unloading them for cheap now so just look around. and you could do the free mods too.
don't get a throttle body spacer though, they aren't worth a crap on the ls1 based motors.

1. muffler - depends on your preferences
2. air intake such as k&n gen2 or upd (good for gas mileage)
3. computer tuning, there are some better tuning devices out now that produce better results than hpp3 (superchips, diablo, etc...)
4. 6.0L engine swap w/ S2 heads/cam <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
after you have those you have all the basic bolt ons. then you start getting into the pricey stuff
honestly i wouldn't even waste my money on the throttle body spacer. I don't think i have ever heard of anyone who actually got gains from one. only an annoying whistle...
hope this helps <img border="0" alt="[Fluffy]" title="" src="graemlins/fluffy.gif" />

Re: 5.3 Truck Mods?
Thanks everyone!! Has anyone ever tried the MAC cold air kits? We carry them at work now and they look like a pretty cool piece.
What would be the free mods since I am not real familiar with ls1 motors?

pen striping gives 5-10rwhp? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
i dont know anything about the MAC cold air kits, but any intake will give a gain on these unless you REALLY screwed it up. the only reason i mentioned the k&n gen2 and the upd is because they have been proven. the MAC may turn out to be good, i just dunno
u could always try a before/after dyno <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Re: 5.3 Truck Mods?
Somthing to consider since the truck is an 03, i'd check all the part's to make shure they dont void factory warranty, wouldnt want somthing to go bad and warranty not cover, cause the dealership said your after market parts voided the warranty! Other than that my suggestions would be=
1.UPD intake
2.good flowing muffler
3.NGK TR55 pugs
4.Keep regular maintenece up (especially the tranny!)
5. O yeah and a good grade-brand of gas.
Check to see if these wont void the factory warranty . Then have fun in the work truck!
