Default 5.3 Help

I am building an iron block 5.3/4L60E for my 66 Nova cruizer and needs some advise from you engine experts.

I am replacing the stock pistons with 4.8 flat top pistons. I have a TR220 cam, stock heads with 2.0 intake 1.57 exhaust 918 springs. Intake will be the new GMPP carb/throttle body aluminum intake with an Acufab 1000cfm throttle body.
Do you see any problems, have any recommendations?

except for making the carburated 5.3 run the 4L60E i see no imediat problems in your future depending on the year of the tranny ond how much you know about building wiring harnesses. Have fun. keep us posted i want to hear it and see it run when your done.
One question though. how are you going to get a distributer to go into a destrbuterless engine with a cam that has no gear to run the distributer? good luck.

Onviously you aren't keeping up with the performance parts coming out of GM. The intake is using a 1000cfm Acufab throttle body with throttle position sensor and IAC. As far as wiring harness, i expect Speartech or any of the other harnesses will work fine with the stock 5.3 PCM and coil packs. My 4L60E is a 2001, that came with the engine. I don't see where the problems are.

What I was really looking for was performance advice from real technical people!

no i havent been. you also didnt state that you were using a stock PCM so assumed that you were going with carberation and possibly an older 4L60E. as far as performance advice goes what are you wanting to know. if you need a question answered the only way to get a respons is to ask it directly. and what doe you mean by real technical people. i may be 18 but i know more than some people twice my age.TYVM

No ****, that sounds bad sir.

Will the 4.8 pistons work? What else had to be changed, anything?

I'd do some better choosing on the heads/cam package. Using that single plane(or is it dual?), really changes things.

You'll be able to pull alot more rpm for one thing.

and are you going daily driver or going to keep it n/a or go FI on it that would prolly also help on the head cam selection if you are going FI i would not mill the heads any in fact if i was going FI i might go for some like 6.0 or 5.7 heads to lower compression so i can get more boost

The 5.3 piston dish volume is about 8.14cc. If you use stock 5.3 heads with the 4.8 flat tops, seems the compression ratio will be somewhere in the high 10:1 range....better do the calc's. If this is a race motor, then perhaps this is what you want.

This is the type of advice I am looking for!

I was looking to increase the compression to 10/10.5 :1 for the added horsepower. Now the question is should I cut the heads 50 thousandts to get it uo a little higher. This will be my Power Tour car and will never be raced except at these types of events. However i want a really strong, great sounding muscle car. I had an L79 Nova when I was a teen in 1971 and it was the baddest car I have ever owned. And I have had early Mopars like 440 Chargers .
Please keep this type of advice coming.

ONG, that's a pretty cool motor for your cruizer!

As of now, I'm planning to do the Power Tour this year for the first time. I'll look for your Nova...good luck!
