ok, i guess i'll get some 3/8 rods and figure out how they work when i get to that point. you put them in before removing the old cam i assume. and im not going to have to pull the intake for any of this? im just used to working on my 454 where i have to pull the intake to do the same job. thanks for the help guys

don't touch the intake. KB explained quite well how the rods work.
Keep trying that link to see if it fixes. those pics will help.

Ya, you can't even see the lifters from the valley area, you have to pull the heads to get to them. You just put the rods in the oil galleys and spin the cam over by hand after you take the gear and chain off and that will push all the lifters up in the bore and with the push rods off, they will stick up in the lifter cups and you will be able to just pull the cam right out.
