5.3 to 6.0, Looks like I need help tonight...
#1
Well, I'm in the middle of the swap on my 99 Z-71. I'm dropping in a 2000 6.0L. The problem is the flexplate holes don't quite line up with the torque converter. I was gonna pull the one off my stock engine, but the crank looks longer on the 6.0.
Man, I just got done bolting up the tranny too. Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Will

Ok, it doesn't look like a space issue. The bolt holes in the 6.0 plate are about an 1/8th of an inch further out than the holes in the TC. I think I need to pull the engine and put on the old plate.

you have to use the stock 5.3 flex plate. thats what i was asking about in the other thread and thats what i was told was to use the 5.3 flex plate and that the 2000 6.o's don't have a removeable spacer and to chim the bolts i guess.

HOLD ON THERE! Hope you didn't pull the 5.3 yet. The 1999 and 2000 model 6.0 liter motors (the ones that come with iron heads) have a slightly longer crank to mate up to the 4L80E transmission. The 2001+ models (with aluminum heads) used the same crank as the rest of the GENIII motors and a spacer to make up the difference. The 4l60 doesn't need the spacer, the 4L80 does.
That means a 99-00 6L motor WONT bolt directly up to a 4L60 transmission, no matter what flexplate you use. The crank will force the torque converter too far into the trans. Measure the rear of the crank on both motors, you'll see what I'm talking about.
You can put your 5.3 crank in it or you can move to a 4L80 transmission. Sorry.

might be quicker to swap your cranks they are the some stroke. but you'll need the torque converter for the 80e and the 80e drive shaft shorten if your 4wd you'll need the front shaft lengthen. tranny mount is different. and wireing and a tune
