Default 5.3 or 4.8l

so here's the issue i got a gen III with casting# 12551358 and 706 heads. I'm pretty sure its a 5.3 but casting was also used on 4.8s came out of a 00 yukon XL with unknown km in a wrecker got it with a 4l60e 4wd for basically $250 so if any one more knowledgeable then me can figure out and give me a definite answer as to what i have.

Its a 5.3

4.8s have flat top pistons

Also I don't think any XLs have 4.8s only reg Yukon.

A nice score from by the looks of it, Pick and Pull in the West end of Edmonton. The gravel, A frame, rim stands and little cart makes it a dead give away. LS powered anything at any of those yards ( KarBashers or Pick and Pull) get ripped down to nothing so fast I gave up looking at them, lol.

yeah it was picknpull in the west end the yukon was in the middle of row 1 some one ripped the front clip of but left the engine totally untouched it was even me that pulled the intake off of it i set it in the frame of my car for the winter definitely going to need to run a dry sump system i know this isn't a car forum but ill throw some pictures up in a while

They had an 03/04 Avalanche that was smashed out along the fence of vehicles yet to be processed or whatever. Would have been a 5.3/ 4L60E as well but I don't know if it ever made it into the yard, or what. Nothing I needed out of it but it was complete at that point. I haven't gone in a while so I might need to make some rounds again, lol. People do the strangest things in that pick and pull yard, makes you wonder what they actually were after sometimes.
