1/2 tons are an 8.25" ring gear with 28 spline axles

3/4 and 1 tons are a 9.2" ring gear with 33 spline axles

thanks yelo, now that your here, is there anyway you can get the name of the guy or the shop that did the 4l80e swap, i would really like to confirm that they just pluged it in and it worked, seems to good to be true but if it is i am probably headed in that direction. either that or swap my truck for a 3/4 ton.

It was a place in Leicester, NY (pronounced "Lester") where I used to live...I think it was called the 'Vette Stop...or something like that..I will try to remember the right name of the place and get it to you...the swap was done back in '99 to a brand new Silverado 1500 ECSB that blew the tranny running tires that were WAY too big for the stock 4L60 to handle, the swap to the 4L80 as far as I remember was as straight forward as I described in the other post.....the last time i saw the truck was in '01 when I went home to visit and saw the guy on Main St. and asked him how the truck was running...he said it was doing great

and parish8.....if you really think about it...how hard could this swap really be....I mean GM isn't going to use 2 different computers for two different transmisions...hell, even the Allison 5 speed auto will bolt right up and plug in, in the worse case scenario you have to change the wiring harness from the 'puter to the tranny...big deal, the trans mount is different but EVERY trans mount is different, so again, big deal

as long as you get a COMPLETE trans you will be OK, buy a brand new one with all the little nuts and bolts for the shift linkage and wiring harneses and you will be good to go

if you are really concerned contact Advanced Adapters about the swap.....they have managed to put together every possible combo you can think of so they should be able to help you with ANY question you may have

i know the swap is not imposiable but i would really like to know EXACTLY what i am in for before i start. i have heard reprograming is required, driveshaft lenthening and shortening required, tranny line tweaks, flexpate?, cross memeber mod, and wiring harness changes.

then i hear it just bolts in , it would be great if you are right and alot of people will be greatfull, if it is like you say people will be doing this swap soon, lots of them i bet. i have a $2100 flp tranny that might just last forever(praying) but i have my doubts, time will tell and if it dies i will be looking at the 4l80e

I wasn't trying to beat on you or anything parish8, I understand your concerns and questions....

the place was called The Corvette Connection....I don't know if it is still around or not

let me see if I can find some links to sites that have done this conversion...I know I have seen it done on a few web pages over the last couple of years...

You might also wanna check to see if the output shaft spline count of the 4l60E matches the input splines of the transfer case. They probably do, but if not you will have to change one or the other. The input shaft of the transfer case isn't a hard mod (had to do it with my jeep which has a similar transfer case), just adds $$ to the project.
