Default 4L60E durrability

I have a 2002 ECSB. I'm wondering about the durrability on the stock trans. If I get the truck up to about 400/400 at the wheels, it's that going to be death for the trans? I'm not going to be putting in a high stall or anything, it's not a race truck.

The tranny wont hold that kind of power from what Ive heard. At least do a shift kit and as big of a cooler as you can get. I dont remember if the converter helps or hurts the tranny, but damn they are fun!! Do a search, there is a ton of tranny info on here. You acan also read at what point various members lost there transmissions.

*** soon as the tq goes a stock tranny will go unless it has some help. a trans go shift kit and billet servos will help out greatly.400hp. nope you will have to get her built to hold that much power.

340rwhp killed my stock one.....400 killed my built one (must have been built wrong?)

It is VERY HARD to find someone that knows how to deal with a high performance 4L60...your best bet would be to send it off to Hughes, TCI, etc. or the new trend seems to be upgrading the 4L60 to a 4L80 swap. Stock 4L80 with simple Transgo Shift Kit is supposed to hold around 600hp if I remember correctly.....built one is supposed to be able to hold around 1200hp.

I am sticking with the stock 4L80 for now....should be plenty!

Well Houghs is right here in town, so that's good. At what point will a "built" 4L60E have to be replaced with a 4L80E?

WATCH OUT FOR CENTURY TRANSMISSION!!!
They charged me $571 to install just a shift kit.
NO KIDDING. They ripped me a new one, and didn't even include vaseline in the deal.

Funny thing is, I brought the transmission to them. They didn't even have to drop it out of the truck....fluid was drained and everything.
A simple bench job.

Mike quoted me $380-400 originally, walked out paying $571 for a simple shift kit install.

I turned red in the face when I saw the invoice. Mike said, "oh, uh, its been a while since we've worked on one of these 4L80's and it wasn't as easy as the 60, but I did give you a $17 discount".
I asked him if there were any problems and he said no, transmission looks great. A-HOLES

Definitely not worth driving an hour each way and $571, let me tell you!

I have the receipt to prove this!

Oh yeah, he quoted me $1800 for a rear-end job (Eaton, Gear, etc.)
HAHAHA....That's a rear-end job alright!

I am not usually the one to talk bad about people....but this is fact, and I am still a little peaved about it.

The 4L60E can't hold 400rwhp stock form. Also, there's no way 400rwhp isn't going to be raced...that's close to 500hp at the fly.

Besides I'd rather have a nice stall for just drivability than all that power...the 1-2 shift gap sucks and when you're going too fast for 1st and too slow for 3rd that 1800rpm bog you get is crappy. Also with that power, it's going to take a roots/twin screw blower to get those numbers but if you go N/A you're gonna need a big cam and that will leave you with a nice dead spot down low.

Have you ever driven a vehicle with a nice stall?

I had mine rebuilt with this kit,
http://www.kdsperformance.com/torepa4lls1o.html
plus a yank torque thruster 3000.
The shop was really good and really helped me out. For the high cost of the kit I saved on the install plus I like knowing what exactly went into to it.

I don't have alot of power but after my cam and new tune I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I'm at 4230lbs with me in it so hopefully it will give me another year of enjoyment.
