402 vs. 408... what should I build?

Default 402 vs. 408... what should I build?

Ok. I'm getting my plans figured out for my engine build. I've decided on building something on a 6.0 platform. So my question is. Go with a 402, or spend a little more money for 6 more Cubic Inches? This is a Z71 RCSB (in sig).

I'm looking at building something that will see some track time, but I also want to be able to go out and have some fun on the street. I understand the no replacement for displacement, but is the extra machining money worth the 6 cubes?

I gladly gave up 6 cubic inches for more wall thickness and have a potential rebore to a 408 if I need it.

Im with Atomic. I bucked up for the 6 extra cubes but there really isnt any reason for it. 402 will be just fine and $1000 cheaper if you go with stock pistons.

That's kinda how I felt as well. I didn't really know if there was any particular reason why people went 408 other than re-boring a hurt block.

If you are starting with a used block wouldnt you have to pretty much bore it anyway?

If the cylinder walls look good, you could do hone, and end up with a 4.005" finished bore, and still have flexibility for future rebuilds.
