im sticking with my 4.8.

has a short stroke, so if u upgrade the valvetrain, some new headbolts/studs etc...u can have a high RPM. high RPM and a compression of like 9:1 or so u can run a seriosu amount of boost....

we just gotta find a transmission that can handle it....lol

I am talking from experiance, making a 4.8 fast (11's or better) and having it make power (500+rwhp and 500+rwt) isnt easy. It takes alot of research to find the right combo. I made 500rwhp and 5## rwt on a 90* day with 89% humidity. Making a 4.8 and powerful can be done. Its just going to be a big headache and cost some cash along the way.

Get a shift kit like the Transgo if you start making power, it should boost up your 4L60e quite a bit. I have only been driving on mine for almost a week and I must say it shifts very very nice. I haven't put the pedal to the metal yet but I did half throttle it the other day to show some little punks what was up and barked the tires pretty bad at the shift, something I wasn't able to do with the stock 4L60e even if I tried!

Oh dont get mem wrong. I love my 4.8. I would not ever think of second guessing my choice of this engine. I am just saying that it does take some thinking to get these little guys moving. And the best part is after you smoke some one in a "fast" car. Because they always say "So that thing got a 5.3, a 350 or a 6.0???" Then I can just smile and say its only got a 4.8

Hey guys, thanks for the replies!! I just got back from Port O'conor with some friends, so I couldn't reply.

We had fun!! Last night we went to front beach and blew up a port-o-pottey with a bag of airtillery shells, the BIG fireworks. It was awesome, until someone called the cops.

I live close to Victoria. I will post a pic of my truck tomorrow. The exterior looks sweet thats why I don't want to sell it. About how much would a used 5.3 be, just the motor? If it is less than $1000 I might just go with that, and tune it. ***** tune instead of nelson since I'm on a budget. They are only ***** this summer!! I could keep my tranny without rebuilding right? That would be the cheapest I think. Could someone tell me where to look for a used 5.3.

Thanks,
Nick

Nick, we don't let non sponsor advertising and pricing out here when we have a sponsor that has rights to advertising here. I will caution you of a "to good to be true price". Remember you get what you pay for. As for used parts, check the site classified and post a "wanted to buy" thread on the 5.3.
