Default 4.8 cam questions!

I've been looking in to a cam for my little 4.8, I've been eyeing the 212/218 comp cam. I'd like to know what other parts I would need to do the cam swap, and is a converter absolutely necessary? Also is this a good for the 4.8, I see a lot of 5.3 guys with them but not a lot of 4.8? Thanks!

That would be a great cam for your 4.8. A converter is not nesasary with that cam. You will also need push rods and valve springs. Lifters depending on the mileage on your engine. Ls7 are a good cheap upgrade. If you do lifters you will need head gaskets. I'd also look into long tube headers. And of course a tune.

How much do you think it'll all run? And TSP has that cam, I'm gonna call and see if they make it in a package deal? Thanks for the info btw!

They do have complete cam swap packages. I think they are around $600 for single springs which will be fine for that cam. You could also run ls6 blue springs with the low lift version of that cam if that's the one your looking at to save some $

7.4 is the standard length on pushrods with stock heads and gaskets and base circle of the cam. It's always a good idea to verify with a pushrod length checker $20 part. Although I didn't use one on my set up. Valve springs are your choice. Like I said ls6 springs are cheap and will work great with the low lift of that cam. Tsp will set you up with the right stuff tho.
