Default 4.8 or 5.3???

What do u guys think is better, i heard 5.3s were meant for hauling because strock rcsb will get taken out by a stock 4.8. Is that hauling thing true? And which motor would be better to build out?

bigger the better.
stock 4.8 won't take out a 5.3 unless it's laying in the back of the truck.

LOL. Of course the 5.3 is better. Believe me, I have a 4.8 and it runs strong, but for everything it can do, the 5.3 can do better.

i race a friend of mine with a rcsb sierra multiple times in my rcsb silverado and i always beat him, both trucks are bone stock, only diff is the name and that my truck is positive and his is not. Would that be the reason? doubt it but i dont know much about these things, im new to the mod world.

Traction. Tire size, Gear ratio. 4.8 have no low end tq so if you pulled him off the start it was traction that won.

Or gears. Ive seen several times a 2003 extra cab with a 4.8 and 3.73s beat a 2005 extra cab with a 5.3 and 3.23's.

All things equal the 5.3 should beat the 4.8 every time!

ive also heard that the 5.3 motor is a lot heavier for the 20 hp extra it has, but idk if there is any truth to that.

They weight the same. There is no replacement for displacement.

As stated, both weight the same. 20hp don't seem like much, but there's a larger difference in torque (30-40), don't remember the exact number.

Not to be a dick, but whoever told you that........Quit listening to them. Horses weigh a lot, horse **** weighs a little, horsepower doesnt weigh anything. Components used to gain, or free up horsepower may or may not weigh any extra, but the horsepower itself doesnt weigh anything.

If youre into learning about making more horsepower, of just freeing some up, youre in the right place. There are several members here more than willing to help a newbie learn.
