He didn't mean that the HP weighed 20 xtralbs. He meant that he heard the engine weighed more but only added a few more hp which would Cancel each other out and not really be worth it.

Either way. Not true. As stated they are the same.

I have a lil' 4.8 and I am trying to make it faster. But I have driven both back to back for years as a dealer tech and the 5.3 has WAY more low end punch. Way more.

Difference in the 4.8 and 5.3 is the stroke of the crank and the pistons, both the 4.8 and 5.3 have the exact same engine block. Difference between the 5.3 and the LS1 is the LS1 is aluminum block and has a larger bore size, crank stroke is the same. 5.3 can be bored to accept LS1 size pistons making it what is commonly refered to as a "Iron Block LS1". So now you have a little insight into 4.8,5.3,5.7 basic block differences. There is also a aluminum block 5.3. You have lot's to learn and the first thing is all LS engines have a great deal of power potential, the LS1 is good but other engines can be had much cheaper.

Thought the only difference between the 5.3 and the 4.8 was stroke. Isn't the bore the same?
