Going to a real locker style 3.73 would make no difference, same gearing just no one wheel peel anymore.

And gears do not add horsepower, not sure if you read that they did.

Gears are there for mechanical advantage, they help you move out quicker or can help with fuel mileage.

The higher gear number you go the better it can be acceleration, so like 3.90's or going to 4.10's or higher. But the trade off is higher cruising rpm on the freeway. It's possible that you may lose 1-2 mpg at your freeway speeds of 70-75 mph. But you may not lose any mpg aswell, that 4.8 might be just fine with a few hundred extra rpm.

If you want more horsepower, start adding mods. Like an intake tube, headers and a really good tune can wake that 4.8 up. You'll need a tune anyway if you decide to switch gear ratio's, the computer needs to know that you did it so the transmission doesnt act up on you.

Sorry, I should have made my intent clear. I want faster acceleration of the line. I have an electric fan, Bulldog tuner, cold air intake, and true dual exhaust. The 4.8 isn't as quick off the line and I like to hear tires chirp from a dead stop. I've move to a higher elevation and I don't get the same performance out of it. I've touched the battery cables together to reset the system and let it relearn my fuel air mixture, but it's still sluggish off the start compared to coastal air. The gears will give me the response I want. Next will be a cam upgrade but thats 2500 plus parts for the cam and torque converter.

Then pick your posion with gear ratio, going to a 4.10 should get you what you want.

And I'd personally ditch the bullydog tuner, they aren't very good. A custom with a EFI Live or HP Tuners will get you far more out of the truck that than thing ever will.

2500 for what??? Sounds like to start with you need a tune, touching battery cables together doesnt really do anything, and is not recommended, too many modules with capacitors that can cause issues..

2500 to install a stall and cam. I have a Bulldog tuner. I will get a performance tune when I get the cam and stall. I was going with a 411 rear-end to get better take off
